Rhino Tracking in the Kaovoveld

In collaboration with the Sesfontein Conservancy and their rangers, Fort Sesfontein offers an exclusive Rhino Tracking Tour. Seize the opportunity to experience an extraordinary wildlife encounter in Kaokoveld in Namibia. The package is based on a 3-night stay at Fort Sesfontein Lodge, and the tracking is limited to 6 persons. All participants should be in good health, at least 14 years old, and wear appropriate clothing.

The Program of the rhino tracking:

Day 1: Participants arrive at the lodge as self-drivers or via fly-in. A welcome, check-in, and dinner in the evening follow.

Day 2: The Conservancy and the Rhino Rangers confirm that the tracking can proceed and make preparations, including selecting the area. These preparations are necessary because the rhinos are shy, their numbers are small, and they move within a vast area. Participants have the day at their disposal. They can, for instance, relax or join one of the other offered tours. Lunch and dinner are included in the price.

Day 3: Early in the morning, the lodge’s game viewer transports the participants, equipped with provisions and personal equipment, to the region selected by the rangers. In the area, there is a meetup with the rangers at the freshest possible animal track that can be followed. The further approach is coordinated, especially whether it can still be pursued off-road by car or whether it must be continued on foot directly. All circumstances, such as the ground condition, vegetation, weather with winds, etc., are taken into account. Participants must absolutely follow the rangers’ instructions. Then, it is highly likely to sight the rare and shy, freely living rhinos. They are strictly protected against poaching. They might also be dehorned, but the horn regrows within 18 months. The rangers will provide instructions on what is allowed, and participants can make their observations, as well as take photos or videos. Lunch will be served during the day, and there will be dinner back at the lodge in the evening.

Day 4: After breakfast, departure can take place.
